Last Day...

So..today was our last day of lesson with Rita. I would like to thank her for all her teachings and guidance throughout the semester. It was a learning experience and a journey as well.

The exposure and tools in this class will give me a confident boost to make my own exhibition one day, which i very much like to.

The mock-up exhibition is something that i wish i could make it a dream come true as it is very feasible. The big thing i need to make it work, i believe is networking with the right people and gaining lots of support. So i hope i will be given such privileges and opportunity in the future.

Trip to flat galleries.

I missed the half of the session with Rita but i manage to make-up for the other half.

I didn't know and even realised that there are such things as flat galleries! I mean firstly, flats are suppose to be a residential area (where people sleep, and no-business allowed kinda thing) but in here, it's legal to have galleries even in residential houses! Isn't that great and bizarre! I could turn my house into a gallery, here! Save cost, time, etc...Just think about the $$$ you are saving....Anyway, this is just a confession from a naive, "alien" from asia. We don't have such privileges. OR maybe i should pioneer it back home.. hmmm .... *legal issues legal issues*

I just wish that they could exhibit the works in more decorative manner, and not just plain looking space/house with the works hanging on the wall. I'm not asking for over-decorated galleries, but a little personal touch will not do any harm.

The Visit to Mi Vida (heaven and hell) Exhibition in Mucsarnok

The Exhibition is an eye-opener for me as it's different from any other exhibitions that we have been to. Generally i love most of the artworks there as it is very relevant to today's world and i can relate to it very well, without having to know background knowledge. Ironically, i love the Balkan Erotic Epic the most, not because of its eroticism, but because of how it was exhibited/displayed. Firstly, the topic is totally unique in itself and i love how different videos relate to each other. The large size displays are also nice to look at. The only thing that it can made the whole experience better is to have the "explanation video" as big as the other displays, and playing the sound louder. Where the sound can be a disturbance created by other videos, they can solve this by putting subtitles.

Other exhibitions are as unique as well, although some of them are too much hidden for us to find it. Some areas are too dark, which can be a danger for visitors. They could solve this by putting illuminated arrows/direction on the floor to guide visitors to various artworks in darker areas.

They could also do something about the ventilation of the whole exhibition area as it became too stuffy after spending quite some time in there.

Trip to Applied Arts Museum

First of all, i LOVE the design of the building. I think it's one of the heritage of hungary that they should preserve and be proud of as it is unique and one of its kind. The only disadvantage is its location where its surrounded by ugly communist-feeling buildings.

The exhibition inside was not as exciting as i expected. The concept may be interesting but it's not catching my attention to know more and be excited about it. I think the temporary japanese exhibition looks more interesting to me.

Great contrast between this museum and ethnographic museum i might say!

Trip to Ethnographic Museum

This is my first trip to the museum and i don't even know it's a museum!

I love the interior of the building, except it could be warmer. Probably they are not heating the place. And they need to do something with the dull atmosphere.

The temporary exhibition was really interesting except that it's confusing, for me. I didn't get the idea that the curator is trying to show in this exhibition. Some session looks better than the other but in the whole it's quite a well done exhibition.

I found the permanent exhibition to be more interesting even though it's so old, but thats the whole point; to make it old, feel, smell old. I think i learn more here than the temporary exhibition.

My Proposed Concept

I would like to have a digital art exhibition entitled "101010". I chose this title as it is perfect to the theme of the exhibition (being "1" and "0" as the binary code of computer language and also the most basic as well) and also the opening date of the exhibition. :)

This exhibition will showcase large-scale, high-definitions video installations, large-scale digital prints of both graphic arts and photography, done by young and upcoming artists.

It will show on the artist's daily life, in what they see, feel, hear, touch and sense, and more importantly, on how Information Technology and digital age as a whole, has affected the way they live now. Blending both aesthetic and provocatively political aspects, it will create a harmonious feeling and emotion to the visitors.

Venue: [ not sure ]
Opening: 10 October 2010 (10 10 10)

Week 5

It was a fruitful journey and visit to the ethnography museum. We learnt about the various issues (plus and minus) of the current exhibition available there.
